Permanent Mission participated in International Day of Nowruz

The “International Day of Nowruz” organized by the Permanent Missions of the Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Turkey was held on 2 April 2012, in Headquarters of the UN Office at Geneva.

The event was organized in accordance with the resolution initiated by the Republic of Azerbaijan within the 64th session of the UN General Assembly.

In his speech Mr. K.Tokayev, UN Under-Secretary-General, Director-General of the UN Office at Geneva, noted that the traditions of Nowruz holiday are an essential part of World cultural heritage, and its traditions made a specific contribution to the World culture and art, as well as he characterized the step of the Permanent Missions of 9 countries that participated in organization of this event, as an example of cultural cooperation.

Mr. D.Chikvadze, the Head of Cultural Activities Committee of the UN Office at Geneva, was also made a speech at the event.

The videos and photos with HD format which illustrate the history, culture, art and tourism potential of our country have been shown, as well as the copies of the “Baku” magazine and calendars made by the “Heydar Aliyev Foundation” have been distributed by the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Azerbaijan. Due to the hosting of “Eurovision-2012” song contest, the video materials on that song contest have also been presented by the Permanent Mission and this was appreciated by the guests.

The participants of the event have demonstrated a special interest to sweets and national cuisine patterns – “pakhlava” and “shekerbura” that are the decoration of the tables in Novruz holiday - which have been presented in trays by the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Azerbaijan, as well as to the exhibition which included different materials on history, culture and art of our country. Guests were interested in specific aspects of the celebrations of Nowruz holiday in our country, and were wondered at the richness of our history, culture, cuisine and art.
